AUSTRALIA
CONTINENT WALK
666 Days – 18000 km.
The Goal
The aim of this walk is to create a new form of personal challenge to enhance my practical awareness and wisdom about life. My walk will cover 18,725 kilometres over 666 days, completed solo while pulling a hiking cart. The route forms a full circuit around the Australian continent.
If I lack the courage to embrace a journey of meaningful change, I am also turning away from the path that leads to wisdom
Ali Engin – The Walker
Concept of Walking

The walk is planned as a full circumnavigation of the Australian continent, following the existing road network in a clockwise direction, starting and finishing in Sydney. Unlike other continental walks in Australia, this route also includes a detour into the central regions of the continent. Although this extension increases the total duration, it adds to the overall distance and geographical coverage of the project.
The walk will be carried out solo, with a planned daily distance of 25 to 30 kilometres, depending on the daily schedule. All technical equipment required for the journey will be transported in a hiking cart, which I will pull throughout the entire route.

Accommodation will primarily be in a tent, with occasional use of local lodging facilities as planned. Basic food supplies and technical gear will be stored in the hiking cart, with contents adjusted according to regional conditions. The logistical framework of the walk is based on self-sufficiency, supported by four designated resupply zones across the continent.

The walking schedule is designed to minimise the impact of adverse seasonal conditions. Route planning has been aligned to ensure that each region is traversed during its most favourable seasonal period, wherever possible.
